For students under the age of 12
- One parent/adult is expected to attend all lessons, take notes, and commit to re-teaching the lesson at home as the "home teacher." Children under the age of 12 may not be left unattended at Bay View Strings.
- Set aside time to practice at home. Work with your child to find a consistent practice time as a part of your daily routine. Practice time will vary by age and skill level.
- Make arrangements for siblings if their behavior will be disruptive. Children under the age of 12 may not be left unattended at Bay View Strings.
For students over the age of 12
- In most cases, parents will not observe lessons but should plan to sit in the waiting area until the lesson is over.
- Set aside time to practice at home as a part of your daily routine. Students should aim to practice approximately the length of their lesson.
- Consider taking notes immediately after the lesson, bringing a recording device, or having the student take notes during the lesson with assistance from the teacher.

Materials
Students are required to rent an instrument and purchase a variety of materials including but not limited to rosin, shoulder rest or pad, recordings of assigned music, sheet music (Suzuki Volumes, I Can Read Music, Whistler, etc.). The teacher can direct you to sources for these materials.
Cancellation
Each semester has a built-in make-up week to cover one lesson missed by the student during the semester. Bay View Strings will honor cancellations for religious holidays with a week's written notice. If the teacher must miss a lesson, the lesson will be made up on the teacher make-up day in the Academic Calendar. No make-ups will be given in addition to the ones stated above. All make-ups must be scheduled at a mutually agreed upon time and must be in the same semester as the missed lesson.
General
In the Fall and Spring, Bay View Strings operates on a semester basis. Each semester includes 16 lessons and one built in make-up week. Under no circumstances will there be a reimbursement for partial or incomplete semesters (other than late enrollment). Those paying on a payment plan will still be obligated to complete the month’s payments in full and on time even if the student no longer attends Bay View Strings.
During the Summer months and under special circumstances, you may be asked to sign up for lessons on a month-to-month basis. The number of lessons must be determined for each month before the first lesson of the month. Payment for the entire month must be made at the first lesson of each month and there will be no reimbursement for partial or missed lessons.
